For the Blaqueer Figure Drawing Workshop, I designed a set that expanded the workshop’s themes of celebrating Black queer bodies in all their forms. The environment provided varied focal points, allowing participants’ drawings to reflect what naturally captured their attention.
One of my favorite sets from this series was the Yemaya-inspired installation, where I created an altar with offerings to honor her energy. Various fabrics, including African indigo textiles, were draped to evoke the movement of water, symbolizing Yemaya’s presence. The live model’s presence within the set enhanced the visual narrative, reinforcing the connection between body, space, and storytelling.
By integrating cultural symbolism and layered visuals, this set transformed the workshop into a more immersive experience, deepening engagement with the figure and the space itself.
